This is a 4-hour training class is centered around the Department of Homeland Security's STOP THE BLEED® program, to which we've added some additional Civilian Responder Immediate Emergency First Aid training. Students will gain the knowledge, confidence and necessary skills to provide life-saving medical care, which could make the difference between life and death for the victim(s), while awaiting more advanced medical care.

A bleeding injury can happen anywhere. We've all seen it happen too often—on the news or in everyday life. Life-threatening bleeding can happen in people injured in serious accidents or disasters. Instead of being a witness, you can become an immediate responder because you know how to STOP THE BLEED®.

The person next to a bleeding victim may very well be the one who’s most likely to save him or her from bleeding to death. By learning how to STOP THE BLEED®, you’ll gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control bleeding once you learn three quick techniques. Our Way of Teaching

Our instructors will teach you live—in person, using training materials specially developed to teach bleeding control techniques. They will not only instruct you, they will be available to check your movements as you practice three different bleeding control actions. They will keep working with you until you demonstrate the correct skills to STOP THE BLEED® and save a life.

Key Topics Covered

This class will provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to render care for medical emergencies including massive hemorrhage, pneumothorax and airway obstruction. This class includes discussion, slide presentations, and hands-on skill stations covering the following topics: 

​

• Perform rapid casualty assessment

• Understand and provide emergency medical care in accordance with M-A-R-C-H pneumonic

• Tourniquet application to control serious bleeding in extremities

• Use of emergency trauma bandages and hemostatic agent gauze 

• Wound packing to control serious bleeding in junctional areas: neck & shoulder; armpits; groin and buttocks. 

Upon successful completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate of training completion.

• Workout attire or Daily Wear* (Both a short and Long Sleeve shirt, long pants, comfortable footwear)

• Running or Cross-Trainer style Athletic Shoes

• Notebook

• 2 writing pens

• Face Covering or Mask (Required COVID-19 Protocol)

Successful completion of NOVA's Medical I (MED-I) class is required prior to taking our Medical II course. Why? We take the position that knowing basic first-aid, CPR and AED administration is foremost in developing a Civilian Responder's ability to provide comprehensive and responsible immediate medical care.
